ONE of the major prizes in Hampshire women's golf - the Knight Trophy - now sits proudly in the trophy cabinet at Andover Golf Club following the success of the triumphant mother and daughter pairing of Mandie and Jodie Scott.

Not only was it the first time that the Andover club won the prestigious county pairs event but Mandie and daughter Jodie were the first mother and daughter partnership to the win the trophy.

The competition, a knockout foursome, was open to all clubs in Hampshire and the Andover club's combination battled through a number of qualifying rounds, including a tightly fought semi-final match at Corhampton against a pair from Hayling Island which went to the 21st hole.

The final place took pace at the Army Golf Club in Aldershot against a team from Basingstoke and an exciting match again went to an extra hole before Mandie, who plays off a handicap of 21, and Jodie, a 14-handicapper, clinched the trophy.

The Andover pair made an excellent start and were four up after 12 holes but then their Basingstoke opponents fought back and squared the match with a birdie on the 18th, but on the 19th the Andover duo held their nerve to win the match.

In last week's issueAndover Golf Club's women's section presented a cheque for £1360.50 to the Canine Partners for Independence and not £13360.50 as was stated, apologies to all.
