THE British Polemania Championship will have a host of south coast heats this year for the first time with Hampshire match angler Chalkie White holding no less than 11 qualifying matches on the Broadlands Lake Complex between January and the end of June.

The winners of each section will go forward to the semi-finals with the winners there progressing to the national final at Willow Park in Farnborough.

The final will be decided over two three-hour matches, with the winner picking up a £10,000 cheque.

White will be using the Match Lake, Lower Lake and Main Lake for the heats, with most of the early rounds on the Match Lake and Lower Lake before switching to the Main Lake for the later rounds.

The Cormorants' Christmas Match on Longbridge saw a superb win for Terry Randall who took a whacking 42lb 12oz to the scales from peg 13.

Randall started on the long pole, fishing band and pellet at 14 metres over cupped in ground bait and pellet. He caught skimmers and tench regularly, before switching to bread flake in the margins on the pole for a superb 17lb 4oz golden ghost carp. Randall then caught steadily back on the long pole.

Cormorants Sillybaits' Dave Hambridge came with a steady late run of tench and skimmers to finish second from peg 15, fishing worm over chopped worm at 12 metres for a superb 37lb 8oz mixed bag which didn't include any carp.

Team-mate Richie Yeo was third with 19lb of silver fish, with Andy O'Connor fourth with 16lb 13oz.

The Wimborne Christmas Match on Tower Lake saw a runaway victory for Christchurch Angling Centre's Ron Edwards who took 15 carp to 6lb on the ground bait feeder for 61lb to win.

Jim Finch finished second with four carp for 19lb 9oz taken on the method feeder, with Brian Preston third with five carp for 19lb 6oz and Jem Turner fourth with three carp for 19lb 2oz.

The Eastleigh Christmas Match on Stoneham was held at a venue enjoying its best-ever season, and the match produced some good weights although the Bottom Lake failed to live up to expectations after a frost.

The top six weights all came from the Top Lake with Paul White taking a large bream and a 7lb carp plus bits for 17lb 14oz on a mixture of pole and waggler tactics.

He got the better of Maurie Townsend, who took a carp and two good bream for 14lb 5oz on the ground bait feeder and maggot. Hansfords' Paul Fellbrich finished third with a mixed bream and silver fish bag for 13lb 10 oz, Alister Murchie was fourth with 12lb 3oz.

The TVAC Christmas Match on Kings Lake was won by Dave Parvin, who fished pole, pellet and maggot from the dam wall for 32lb 2oz of carp. He finished ahead of Andy West, who took 25lb 12os of waggler-caught carp to the scales.

The latest Bournemouth Lodge Sweepstakes on Hordle was claimed by Pete Newman (Poingdestres) who took 46lb 1oz of carp on the pole and corn from the monk peg fishing at 10 metres for carp to 5lb.

Homestores Select's Mark Illingworth finished second with 35lb 8oz, with Carbotech's Lee Woodhouse third with 27lb of roach from behind the island.

The latest Greenbridge Farm Hansford's Winter Series match went to Hansford's Dave Parvin, who took 17lb 12 oz of carp to 6lb from peg 10 on Canal One on corn over ground bait fished down the middle. Homestores Select's Graham Tappenden finished second with 13lb 2oz from peg 24 on Canal Three with Eastleigh's Maurie Townsend third.
