HAMPSHIRE firefighters tackled one of their most unusual jobs of the year - a fire in an incinerator.
The blaze broke out in pipes surrounding a burner at Eling Wharf, Totton, shortly after 3am today.
Firefighters from Totton and Redbridge spent two hours at the scene.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews used a thermal imaging camera to locate the seat of the fire. He added: "It was confined to a very small area and caused no external damage.
"Internal fans are built into the system, and once they came on the temperature inside the equipment dropped. All we had to do was cool the pipework."
The fire, at Copper UK, is thought to have been caused by problems with a valve.
