Despite of the recent stormy weather, some cracking fish have still been recorded. Jason Reid beached a double-figure cod which tipped the scales down to 13lb 12oz from the deep water section at Hurst Castle during a flooding tide at night.

Reid, a 38-year-old fitter from the Waterside area, used a whole squid mounted on a 4/0 pennel rig to tempt the specimen along with a brace of jumbo pouting with the best weighing 1lb 5oz.

Variety was the key during the joint club's Christmas Fayre Open held at Southbourne where whiting, pout, dogfish, rockling, bass and flounders provided the action.

Steve Lawrence won the event with a 3lb 12oz bag of pouting followed by Terry Read (3lb 1oz), Dave Brown (2lb 11oz), Tony Ockwell (2lb 11oz), Lee Sanderson (2lb 4oz) and Alan Jones (1lb 15.50oz).

The two-man team event was won by Steve Lawrence and Alan Jones with a combined weight of 5lb 11.50oz, Jones also won the pool for the heaviest flatfish with a 1lb 10oz bass. The round fish pool went to Lee Sanderson with a 1lb 11oz bass.

Kevin Poole was certainly all smiles after collecting the £300 top prize during the Poole Dolphins Open held at Hamworthy where he beached eight flounders and a bass together totalling 11lb 15.50oz. The event attracted 41 seniors and four juniors who went on to land 32 fish. The runner-up was Alan Rogerson with four flatties weighing 5lb 3.50oz followed by Phil Muspratt and Arthur Williams with 4lb 3oz and 2lb 9.50oz respectively.

The pool for the heaviest fish was won by Craig Dyer with a 2lb 9.50oz flounder, while Ben Carter won the junior section.

The final round of the four-a-side Neptune League held at Sandbanks produced a mixed bag of whiting, pout, flounders, bass, silver eels and rockling. The winners on the night were Bournemouth 7 District with 4lb 14oz, which included a 2lb 15oz bass beached by Jeffery Fisk. Advance Angling were the runner-ups on the night with 2lb 11oz followed by Wessex Angling 2lb 4oz, Pro Tackle 1lb 4oz and Boscombe & Southbourne 10oz.

The final round of the Isac Open League Series held at Hayling Island attracted 48 members with 29 returning 88 pout, 36 whiting, three dogfish, a brace of silver eels and a solitary bass to the scales during a wet and windy night.

Mike Taylor from Southampton stamped his authority on the event with a fine win beaching 11 pout and a brace of whiting together totalling 6lb 10.50oz. Josh Simmonds was the runner-up on the night with seven whiting and six pout for 5lb 5oz followed by John Braisher with 2lb 6.50oz.

Simmonds was the overall winner of the league followed by Steve Harder from Southampton and then Mike Taylor.

The first round of the new series has been set for January 6 with fishing along the Ferry Bridge section of Chesil.
