PEOPLE who wait for buses at Hardley near Fawley may not have to stand in the rain for much longer.

The previous shelter at Solent Blue Lane's Lime Kiln Lane stop was taken down when fears were expressed that it obscured the sightline for drivers of vehicles emerging from the Hardley Methodist Church car park.

Shelter provider Adshel was then asked to provide a new shelter two feet further back from the road.

But, Fawley's Hampshire county councillor Alexis McEvoy told the parish council, it declined on the grounds that a site in a less prominent position would reduce the value to advertisers.

But there is hope around the corner. Mrs McEvoy said the county council had agreed to put up a new shelter - with clear ends so that motorists' vision is not obscured - provided it could be maintained by the parish.

It is the latest in a saga of bus stop problems around the parish of Fawley.

Last year, a row blew up over plans to take away a shelter in Fawley Square because it was used as Santa's grotto during Christmas fairs and there had previously been a protracted dispute over the position of a stop in Blackfield Road.
