Warwickshire gained revenge for last season's defeat with a hard-won victory over Hampshire in Tamworth - Hampshire men's team losing the last five sets without even chalking up a leg.

Kent received a drubbing at the hands of Cambridgeshire and are now 25 points adrift of Staffordshire ahead of them.

Kent though have a game in hand against Yorkshire which is to be played at the end of the season. Worryingly Hampshire are only two further points ahead of Staffordshire.

Essex now top both the men's A and B tables and Cambridgeshire both the ladies.

For Men's A team this was a disjointed performance, as the players seem to go back to the bad old ways of missed doubles.

They went into the final match of the weekend with a double aim. A big win which would have kept them top of the Men's A Division and they would have shared honours with Warwickshire.

Both Saturday teams - Men's and Ladies B sides, were held to drawn matches leaving the sides all square before Sunday's A team fixture.

The Ladies A side opened with a superb effort from Sarah Morgan and Jo Sibley giving them a 2-0 lead. But Warwickshire hit back, led by newly-crowned Winmau World Master Trina Gulliver. They finished the match leading 4-2.

Warwickshire now had a two-point edge as the Men's A took the stage.

Mick Cookman's defeat in the opener was not what Hampshire wanted. But Rick Lowther hit the equaliser. Further wins came from Glenn Toms and Paul Hogan as the sides remained level at 3-3.

The second half of the match did not go Hampshire's way as both Lee Padwick and Paul Gibbs lost. Steve Musson won the opening leg of his set but crashed out 3-1 and the chance of bonus points for Hampshire were lost.

A rare 3-0 defeat for Andy Jenkins meant that even a draw could not be salvaged from the Men's A match. Steve Phipps was a very unlucky loser and the rout became complete when Bob Crawley lost the last, despite hitting maximums in each of the three legs.

Player of the Match went to Glenn Toms.

Ladies A: After a super start from Sarah Morgan and Jo Sibley, Hampshire crashed to a disappointing 4-2 defeat. Morgan had an average of 23.42 to win the Trophyman Player of the Match Award.

Men's B: The Men's B team was held to a first draw of the season after trailing 3-1. Aaron Turner had given Hampshire a brilliant start with a 27.33 average. But they soon trailed 4-3 to the midland county. Ian Eames was the unluckiest of those losers with his opponent hitting a big finish before he had a chance at tops. Gordon Williams and Graham Jones levelled the match and John Burbidge put Hampshire in front. Paul Clarkson and Sam Rooney were Hampshire's other winners.

Ladies' B: The team had to settle for a draw when it looked as though victory was on the cards. Wins from Alison Pritchard, Pam Hayman and the excellent Kerry Carter - B side's Player of the Match - saw Hampshire in front. But after Angela Jones lost the fourth, missed doubles cost both Sue Hawthorne and Rhoda Harby the chance to win the match.
