THE ISLE of Wight's Darren Mew has added to Britain's medal tally at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Valencia.
Mew, who qualified with the fastest time yesterday after shattering Adrian Moorhouse's long-standing record, was unable to break the one minute barrier today.
The Bath University swimmer, who turned 21 three days ago, was in gold medal contention for much of the 100m breast-stroke race but had to settle for bronze in a time of 1min 00.04sec.
Italy's double Olympic champion Domenico Fioravanti won in 58.89secs from Daniel Malek of the Czech Republic (59.67). Coventry's Adam Whitehead was eighth.
