HAVANT & Waterlooville remain confident of progressing to the FA Cup first round despite what co-manager Liam Daish described as the "anti-climax" of a 1-1 draw against Gloucester City on Tuesday.
Gary Connolly's equaliser brought H&W back from behind against the Western Division underdogs to force a Monday night replay at Meadow Park (7.45).
Frustratingly, though, they had enough chances to have settled it at the first time of asking with Daish, Paul Wood and substitute James Taylor all denied by the inspired goalkeeping of Ryan Gannaway and both Daish and skipper Gary MacDonald hitting the post.
Ex-Saint Mark Wright's Southport await the winners and Daish remains confident that the Nationwide Conference outfit will be searching out their route maps to Westleigh Park in a fortnight's time.
"I still think we can go through," said the former Republic of Ireland defender. "We let in a sloppy goal but we had enough first-half chances to have won it.
"In the second half we ran out of steam but the pitch was a bit of leveller. It was sodden and very, very heavy which meant some of our livelier players couldn't get away as they normally would.
"I was quite happy with the application from our lads, but the pitch was like quicksand in places and didn't suit our game. It was more like slow motion at times."
Mick Jenkins, the other half of the H&W managerial team, picked out Gloucester's tricky striker Jimmy Cox as the man to tame on Monday. "He was a real handful, but hopefully Gloucester now think their job is done," he said. "We've already won on the road at Carterton and Dartford so we've got nothing to be frightened of."
Should the tie be rained off on Monday, it would be rearranged for Wednesday.
