A REVIEW of Eastleigh council's emergency plan is to be undertaken following last week's great storm, civic chiefs have been told.
Speaking at the council's full meeting, Peter Wall, executive cabinet member responsible for community safety and emergency planning, told members the emergency duty officer had started taking calls on the Saturday.
In the early stages of the storm there were 12 sites flooded and 15 problems with trees.
But by the end there were 140 trees damaged with 60 roads blocked across the borough, three routes blocked by floods and a further 20 roads flooded. Allbrook Hill was impassable for several days.
He said council staff had shouldered a "very significant workload" and praised their efforts.
"The council staff worked their guts out over that weekend to do the best they could," he commented.
But Mr Wall said he would now be looking at three areas. Firstly, there would be a review of the council's emergency plan with particular reference to the control room facilities.
Secondly, there would be a review at the resources that the council should have and lastly, a more long-term aim would be to ask planners to consider floodplain issues.
