HAMPSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is asking parents to warn their children about the dangers of fire and fireworks following a Hallowe'en arson attack on a disabled pensioner at Eastleigh.
As reported in the Daily Echo, the grandmother had a lucky escape when a gang of trick-or-treat youngsters lit a night-light in the porch of her Heron Square home.
The woman doused the fire herself after being alerted by a neighbour.
Fire safety officer John Greenbank said: "I would ask parents to speak to their children about the dangers of playing with fire and fireworks.
"We are not killjoys, we want everyone to enjoy firework night - but let's ensure everyone ends the night sleeping safely in their beds and not in a hospital bed."
