BRADLEY BARNEY had a tougher passage to the quarter-finals of the NABC boxing championships than his brother Marcus and Southampton Golden Ring ABC club-mate James Richardson.

But now all three are eyeing tough draws which stand in the way of making further progress.

While Richardson and Marcus Barney were enjoying days off after their respective opponents dropped out, Bradley Barney was in against the Welsh champion Dai Davies from the Diamond Gloves club in Cardiff.

Southpaw Barney soon had his opponent in trouble and the writing was on the wall for Davies as he received a first-round warning for holding.

Unable to keep Barney off, the Welshman resorted to frustration tactics which eventually led to his fourth round disqualification for persistent holding.

Bradley Barney will now face Michael Rennie from The Grange club in Kent, a reknowned puncher with a couple of national titles to his name.

Marcus Barney and Richardson face equally tough opponents in their quarter-finals. Barney will step in with the experienced Luke Calvert of Finchley, also the holder of national titles, while double National Schoolboys champion Richardson will face the highly-rated Rocky Mitchell from New Astley ABC.
