DESPITE last Saturday's filthy weather, only a smattering of games were due to be played in the HSA Youth League owing to the half-term school break but one side that took advantage was Allan Batchelor's Test Valley Lions Under-12's who made light of the heavy rain and gale force winds to gain a 6-1 away win against Hungerford, with goals from Paul Cox (2), Nick Holloway, Ashley Leach, Jay Gauld and Jacob Baulch (reports Jon Holman.

Hungerford replied just before half time but the Lions never looked like surrendering their three-match unbeaten run, with Glenn Batcheler and Daniel Goode both outstanding in the Lions defence and Kelvan McNamee taking the player-of-the-match award.

In the under-16 league Swan Hill Athletic showed they are back on track after beating Vernham 5-4 in a thriller, with both sides scoring from the penalty spot in the first 15 minutes, before clinching a deserved victory with four superb goals from Kenneth Turner and a further goals from Arron Farr.

John Neville's Shipton confirmed their early promise at under-14 level and opened a vital three-point lead at the top of the table after winning 4-1 away against previous leaders Wherwell with goals from Marcus Hellawell (3) and Liam Edwards.

At under-13 level Dave Fleet's Lockerley won their local derby at Salisbury, despite the home side scoring first, with two goals from Dan Paddock and another from Garry Mullen. Lockerley player-of-the-match was Liam Morrison and the Salisbury scorers were Johnny Jones and Mike Talis.

Second placed Hatherden were surprisingly held 1-1 at home to give Swan Hill their first point of the campaign but CK Andover did even better as they recorded their first win when running out 5-2 victors at home to Shipton.

Broughton dropped to third place after a surprise 3-2 defeat by Neil Bradbury's Vernham, a win which cements their fourth place.

In the second division the game involving leaders Whitchurch was one of those that fell victim to the weather but David Coakley's South Wonston failed to take advantage as they could only manage a 0-0 draw at Wherwell.

Test Valley drop to fourth and Lockerley leapfrogged into third with a runaway 15-0 win with goals from Harry Burt, Louis Flinn, Jack Webber and Harry Drury against a hapless Swan Hill, who are propping up the rest at the foot of the table.

Two goals apiece from Jamie Dockree and James Clinch gave HSA sponsored New Street Under-12s a fine 4-0 away win against Berg in the PHYL - one of the few games that did not fall victim to the weekend's awful weather. Street played some excellent football to make it four league wins on the trot, with player-of-the-match Craig Canavan outstanding and Jamie Massey, Richard Jones and Jack Whitlock also having fine games. Two second-half goals gave Serco sponsored RPM Under-11s a close 2-1 home win against Newbury 'B' in the PHYL League Cup.
