ANDOVER Bowling Club will consider at their AGM next Monday, 6 November, a proposal submitted by two senior and influential club members to wind up the club and distribute any surplus monies to charity (reports Ken Eaton.

This sad state of affairs has come about due the to apathy of the membership to undertake any form of responsibility or to support any social or club events, culminating with less than a quarter of club members attending the recent presentation dinner dance and very few of the championship winners bothered to turn up to collect their trophies and awards.

The bowls club has been in existence for over 75 years and had been a forced to be reckoned with in Hampshire county bowling for many years, with local players winning county and national honours.

Some members, myself included, are questioning whether this poor response is a reflection of current attitudes not only in bowls but all activities that people do not want to become involved in the running or administration of leisure activities.

Happy to play and walk away and let others do the work seems to be the outlook of many but a successful club not only needs good players but also a good administration.
