Saints must get the home fires burning by beating Coventry at The Dell tonight.

Already this season they have been beaten three times in five games in front of their own fans, including a dismal 2-1 reverse against the Sky Blues.

They clash again in the third round of the Worthington League Cup and midfielder Hassan Kachloul is adamant that the result will be reversed.

He regards it as a personal revenge mission against fellow Moroccans Mustafa Hadji and Youssef Chippo who have ribbed him mercilessly since their win here.

But even more importantly Kachloul knows it is vital for Saints to appease the fans after four games without a win, culminating in Saturday's 5-0 defeat by Manchester United, their heaviest ever reverse at Old Trafford.

He said: "We feel we have let them down. We have to come on the pitch tonight with real hunger and have more respect for the people who come to watch us.

"We have lost too many at home and our supporters deserve better. Even if the result is wrong we must always give our all and show full commitment for 90 minutes.

"Losing at home to Coventry was bad, especially for me. Hadji and Chippo have taken the mickey since then so I do not want to lose again. And a good win tonight can help us in the league."

Manager Glenn Hoddle has been spared a goalkeeping dilemma in the wake of Paul Jones's error at Old Trafford because deputy Neil Moss is sidelined with a sprained finger.

Meanwhile James Beattie is likely to be recalled to the attack. He has not started since Saints' last victory at Bradford. With much of last season wrecked by injury, he has not scored since the 2-0 win at Wimbledon in May of last year and would dearly love a goal tonight.

He said: "That does not really bother me as long as the team are winning because I know I have contributed to that.

"Statistics can be deceiving when you look at the ratio of appearances and goals because many of my games have been as substitute.

"I have only started three games this season and although I have not scored, we have won them all. I would settle for the same again."

Meanwhile, Patrick Colleter is back with Saints after his proposed move to Cannes fell through. But despite Saints injury crisis there is room for the French defender in the squad for tonight's Worthington Cup tie.

Colleter found his attempts to return to France scuppered by the French FA.

He spent last week on the Cote d'Azur training with AS Cannes but the DNCG - the financial committee of the French FA - stepped in to put a block on him signing as Cannes have financial difficulties.

The French defender claims he is so desperate to leave that he is prepared to take a wage cut, but is now back at The Dell.

"I have shown to the club that I was working hard to find a new team and that I was ready to make some financial sacrifice to leave," said Colleter.
