A NAVAL rating who was electrocuted when he stepped on a live railway line at Fareham has named by police as 20-year-old Adrian Hunt.
He died in the early hours of Saturday morning near Fareham railway station.
The Commodore of HMS Collingwood in Fareham - where Mr Hunt was based - has spoken about the loss of the apprentice weapons engineering artificer.
Commodore Peter Davies said: "I, along with all the staff and trainees in Collingwood, am deeply saddened by this tragic death.
"Adrian was a determined and enthusiastic young rating and had a bright career in front of him with the Royal Navy.
"He had done all his initial training at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth and here in Collingwood and he was really looking forward to going to sea for the first time."
Mr Hunt was originally from Sleaford, Lincolnshire. An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.
