Eastleigh mayor Peter Humphreys helped launch this year's local Poppy Appeal when he laid one of the first crosses of remembrance at the town's newly-restored war memorial.
He was joined by members of the Eastleigh, Chandler's Ford and District branch of the Royal British Legion as the ground in front of the memorial in the Leigh Road Recreation Ground was dedicated to those who had fallen in wartime conflicts.
Vicar of Eastleigh and RBL branch chaplain the Rev Richard Davies said: "We remember those who have made the supreme sacrifice and we remember all those who have been injured and maimed in war whose suffering is still real today."
Just three weeks ago a new Angel of Victory statue was unveiled at the town's war memorial to replace the original that was stolen around ten years ago. The bronze angel, created by sculptor Jill Tweed, was provided by the borough council as part of the town's millennium celebrations.
