A POLICE investigation is under way after a man and his nephew died in a collision with a car as they crossed a road at an accident blackspot.
Terry Castle, 52, from Alder Road, Coxford, Southampton, and his 28-year-old nephew, Timothy Castle, died after the accident which occurred as they walked across the busy A36 towards The Shoe Inn at Plaitford on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border.
Both men had been making their way from a wake to the pub for a folk night. The pub cancelled the planned entertainment out of respect for the men.
The tragedy has renewed calls for traffic- calming measures to be introduced on the road.
Jeni Noordijk, the Shoe's landlady, said: "They just need to slow the traffic down. There have been plans for the speed limit to be reduced, but it just hasn't been done."
