A HAMPSHIRE MP has pledged to support a cancer charity's new campaign to secure a higher national priority for fighting the killer disease.
Romsey MP Sandra Gidley, pictured right, joined members of The Cancer Research Campaign in the town's marketplace to help them launch a five-pledge card to lobby the government to:
1) Keep cancer high on the political agenda.
2) Match charity funding for cancer pound-for-pound.
3) Reinforce the need for 600 cancer specialists and 600 cancer nurses over the next three years.
4) Ensure that all radiotherapy and diagnostic machines are modernised.
5) Provide patients with the latest and the best information and treatments.
Ms Gidley said: "I am happy to give my support to this important initiative.
"Four in ten of us Britons will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in our lives. My father died of lung cancer.
"Defeating this disease should be a priority for any government."
