Great Britain's Tanni Grey-Thompson became queen of the track with her fourth gold as Britain look set to smash through the 40-gold medal barrier at the Paralympic Games in Sydney today.

With just over a day to go to the finale of 11 days of competition Britain enjoyed another day of success with world records on the track and in the pool together with a second Equestrian gold at Horsley Park.

Pride of place went to Grey-Thompson who smashed a high-class field in the T53 classification of the women's 400 metres to repeat her Barcelona performance of completing a superb quartet of gold medals with success in the 100, 200 and 800m prior to tonight's event.

Racing in lane six, the Cardiff-born wheelchair athlete stormed through the first 200m, leaving her rivals in her wake before coming home in a time of 58.74 seconds. In second place was Sweden's Madeleine Nordlund with Cheri Blauwet, of the United States, taking bronze.

"I wasn't very happy to get lane six so, basically, all I could was get my head down and push a fast first 200," said Grey-Thompson, who revealed this was to be her Paralympic swansong.

"I'll do the Commonwealth Games in two years and that will be that but first I'm going to pig out on ice-cream for a couple of days," she said.

Scotland's own golden girl Caroline Innes took silver behind England's Hazel Robson in the T36 classification of the women's 100m.
