NEW public clocks will soon be appearing all over Hampshire to mark the Millennium.
Thanks to a millennium festival grant, the county council is constructing a varied collection of public timepieces for interesting and unusual sites around the county.
Locations already discussed include the centre of a roundabout, village halls and public gardens.
Gerry Wall, who is managing the project, named Marking Time, said individual schemes will be developed in partnership with local authorities and involve local communities.
Suggestions so far include a sculptural sundial from Test Valley, a timepiece on the internet devised by children from Basingstoke and Deane, and a sundial and performance piece from Eastleigh.
Also discussed is a water feature clock in a sensory garden in Winchester and a clock for the county council information office at Farnborough.
"Some clocks will be traditional--mechanical or digital, static or sculpted," said Mr Wall.
"Others may be more a suggestion or concept of time and how to measure it, like sundials, water sculptures, laser or digital imaging,"
