RUGBY UNION: Hampshire were hoping to have two Fijians in the squad to face West Indies at United Services Portsmouth on Sunday (2.30).

The acting Hampshire team manager, Roy Harris said, "They both sounded very useful. They're in the Army but have been sent to Catterick. Paul Fisher is unavailable plus Richard Griffiths and Dylan Raubenheimer are injured, but we originally named a thirty-three man squad so should be okay."

This is the second match of the West Indies short tour of this country, the first they have ever made as a fifteen man team combined islands side. West Indies lost the opening match of the tour 24-13 against The Royal Navy at Blackheath on Wednesday, which suggests Sunday's game could be a closely fought affair.

HAMPSHIRE SQUAD: Jason Rees, David Rowledge, James Gee (Alton) Jamie Palmer, Neal Taylor, Matt Hart, Steve Collins, Grant Taylor, Marcus Reeve, Lee Bramhall, Phil Della-Savina, Ben Hausermann (Basingstoke), Brendan Tracey (Clifton), Stuart Sang (Effingham & Leatherhead), Adam Jewitt, Alan Barnes, Dave Jones, Joe Duffett, Syd Claffey, Steve Boydell, Steve Jack, Michael Aung (Havant), Cameron King, Gareth Jefferies (Jersey), Gerrard Harrison (Newbury), Matt Gronow (Portsmouth), Jim Kerr (Reading), Rolf Stratford (captain, Winchester).

Former Winchester and Hampshire player Budge Pountney has been named the new Socottish rugby union captain.
