SWANMORE'S Di Hill was a tie break away from winning a national veterans' title.

Playing in the Over-50 ladies singles final at the National Veterans Championship at Wimbledon, Hill was narrowly beaten by Marjorie Love of Scotland in a marathon match lasting over four hours.

Having lost the first set 6-3, Hill went 3-1 down in the second before recovering to win it 7-5.

The final set was evenly balanced, with many games going to deuce, but was eventually won by Love on the tie break.

Disappointed Hill recovered to partner Frances Taylor, the Great Britain captain, to win the ladies doubles, beating last year's winner Sue Hill and Jenny Waggott 6-1 6-3.

The win gave Hill her first national title at Wimbledon. She is now the holder of all three national double titles, having won the indoor title at Heston in February and the Claymore title at Bournemouth in May.
