Bashley must continue their search for a striker after drawing a blank with Purfleet's transfer-listed former Basingstoke Town hitman Paul Coombs.

The Foresters got back to winning ways by beating lowly Burnham 2-0 at the Recreation Ground last night but, again, their only real threat came from set pieces.

Both Bash goals were products of Darren Robson's precision corners - the first rifled home by skipper Andy Darnton at the far post and the second met by a Tony Diaz header.

Darnton's 23rd minute opener means that four of Bashley's last five league goals have been scored by defenders and manager Barry Blankley admitted: "We badly need another option up front. Although we're making lots of chances, we're not taking many of them."

Coombs, who made history at the Camrose Ground as Basingstoke's record all-time scorer, would have been an ideal solution, but the 30-year-old was not keen to travel from his North Hampshire home.

"The travelling from Purfleet was getting him down and, having played Dr Martens football for Farnborough in the past, he thinks there's even more involved in this league," said Blankley.

Bash move up to third in the Eastern Division on the back of last night's win and visit another struggling side, Dartford, on Saturday.

It's a game they are expected to win, but Dartford are not to be underestimated - as Newport found to their cost last night in a 1-1 away draw.

The Islanders' blushes were spared by a last-gasp scrambled equaliser from substitute Steve Watt and manager Tony Mount admitted: "We got a lucky 'get out of jail' point. Dartford were by far the better side."

Newport - now seventh in the table - fell behind straight from the second-half kick-off when under-pressure defender John Price smacked a bullet header into his own net.

The equaliser came when the keeper failed to hold Steve Moss's far-post cross, Danny Rofe's follow-up was blocked on the line and Watt pounced on the rebound.

Injury-hit Jewson Wessex League leaders Lymington & New Milton have bolstered their ailing squad by signing Salisbury City's right-sided midfielder Nick Miles (pictured) for £1,000. Miles's brother, Ben, is already at the Fawcett's Field club.

Winchester Castle continued a week of Russell Cotes Cup shocks by eclipsing Fleet Town 3-2 at Calthorpe Park. From 1-0 down, they punished a weakened Fleet side through Jason Ahmet, substitute Matt Owen and Paul Roberts to book a home tie against Moneyfields, who whipped RS Basingstoke 7-0.
