FOUR pensioners were trapped in a car for more than an hour after a head-on collision at Port Solent.
Firefighters had to remove the rear and roof of the Nissan Micra containing the four women after the collision near the UCI cinema.
A five-year-old boy travelling with his father in the other car involved was treated for shock after the accident just before noon yesterday.
Police said the 65-year-old Lee-on-Solent woman driving the Nissan suffered ankle and wrist injuries and the front seat passenger, a 66-year-old from Gosport, received head and face injuries.
The women in the back seat were more seriously injured, with a 74-year-old from Fareham suffering leg, chest and hip injuries and a 72-year-old from Port-chester injuring her leg, head and face.
All four were being treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital. The 38-year-old driver of the other car, a Citroen XM, was unhurt.
