FORMER TV weatherman Ian McCaskill visited Southampton to tell residents how to keep warm in winter.
He joined energy experts from the city council at WestQuay and at Asda to give advice on grants available to home-owners and landlords.
These include cash to help people on low incomes pay for thermal and loft insulation.
There are also grants to help with the cost of smoke detectors, door and window locks and spy holes.
Council spokesman Ged Burden said: "It proved a huge success and we had a great deal of interest from people wanting to find out how they could save energy in their homes.
"Ian McCaskill really raised the profile of the event and helped to publicise our grant schemes.''
