ISLE of Wight teenager Keiran Page missed out at the World Cycling Champion-ships in Brittany.
The Ryde youngster, who rides for SP Systems Wightlink RT, had been tipped as a potential medal-winner in the two title races for juniors.
Page was outpaced in the time trial and then missed the decisive break which formed towards the end of the road race after playing a prominent role in forcing a short-lived break earlier in the event.
The first of this year's annual prize presentations took place in Ringwood where Claire Newman (Crabwood CC) was the major recipient of Bournemouth Women's CA awards.
These were presented by Sotonia CC stalwarts, Frank and Eve Drinkwater, the joint guests of honour in appreciation of their services for nearly half-a-century.
Two dozen cyclists made a day trip from the Isle of Wight to join nearly 450 other leisure enthusiasts in the New Forest last Sunday, for the annual "grid iron" ride on a 100-kilometre route from Boldre.
CTC members from Southampton, Alton and Winchester also helped to create this year's record entry.
Edward Renwick (VC Venta Wessex Windows) is one of 20 entrants seeded in the starting order for the last major 25-mile time trial of the season this Sunday.
First held in 1969 and now boasting a prize purse worth over £1500, this Brighton Mitre promotion at Steyning in West Sussex, has separate categories for juniors, women and tandem riders.
Brook Farm in the Test Valley at Timsbury has been chosen by Salisbury RC for its annual cyclo-cross meeting, starting at 11am.
"We'll probably send them round in an anti-clockwise direction when we mark out the course," said race organiser Richard Targett.
Former Wessex League champion Andrew MacDonald (GA Cycles), will be racing further afield at Margam Park in Swansea - a popular mountain bike centre chosen for the first round of this winter's National Trophy series.
In his first year as a veteran last season, MacDonald finished runner-up in this category.
He and the defending champion, Martin Eadon (Ace RT) are expected to be the leading contenders for this title again this season.
