BASINGSTOKE Town have sold goalkeeper Vince Matassa to Woking for a fee in the region of £5,000.

The Conference outfit have bought the Australian as a replacement for former Saint Darryl Flahavan who has rejoined the professional ranks with David Webb's Southend United.

Matassa lost his place in the Stoke side when he returned Down Under to get married last Christmas and Scott Tarr established himself as first-choice number one.

He had a loan spell with Salisbury City last season and had just returned from a month with Dorchester Town when Woking made their move.

Stoke assistant manager Pete Peters explained: "Dorchester were very interested in Vince but he lives in Surbiton, Surrey, and didn't want to travel that far.

"Woking is ideal because it's right on his doorstep and he deserves to be playing in the Conference. In fact I think he's capable of going even higher."

Stoke - home to Grays Athletic in the Ryman Premier Division tomorrow - have three new names on their crippling injury list following Tuesday's reserve game against Aylesbury. Stuart Girdler could be out for a month with an ankle injury, Lee Chudy pulled a hamstring and Julian Sills has strained ankle ligaments. It leaves just nine of a 22-strong first-team squad fit and available.

Salisbury City are having a winter clear-out ahead of tomorrow's Dr Martens Premier test at second-placed Burton Albion.

Teenage defender Neil Morris has gone back to his old club Cirencester and Whites have put Bournemouth-based right-sided player Nick Miles on the transfer list.

"Neil disappoints me because he's got a lot of ability but doesn't know how to use it," explained manager Geoff Butler. "As for Nick, he's fast and strikes the ball as well as any player in the club, but he needs games and his options on the right are limited because of Tyronne Bowers."

Frontman Jimmy Smith (groin) is Salisbury's only injury doubt for Burton.

Havant & Waterlooville hit the road to Margate determined to make amends for last month's disastrous home defeat by the Kent side when, from 2-1 up, they collapsed to a 3-2 defeat.

The tide has turned dramatically since then with last week's FA Cup success at Dartford making it three straight wins for H&W with 11 goals scored and just one conceded.

Skipper Gary MacDonald hopes to recover from a minor ankle ligament problem.

Eastern Division promotion rivals Bashley and Newport are both casting an eye over Brockenhurst's attacking midfielder Ben Thompson.

Bash, home to Stamford tomorrow, welcome back defender Andy Darnton who was unavailable for last Saturday's 3-3 draw at Banbury due to work commitments.

Exeter City striker Robert Speakman plays his last game on loan for the fourth-placed Foresters.

Newport, meanwhile, have been set a six-point target for tomorrow's trip to Wisbech and Wednesday's assignment at Dartford.

Both clubs are struggling near the foot of the table and manager Tony Mount stressed: "Our travelling credentials will be severely questioned in the next five days. If we don't beat those two, then we are not serious contenders for promotion."

Midfielder Danny Rofe returns to the squad after suspension but striker Steve Tate sits out another two games.
