EXCELLENCE in action greeted a government minister when she visited a centre helping improve early years childcare.
Minister for employment and equal opportunities Margaret Hodge toured the Haven Early Excellence Centre in Gosport with mayor Aleck Hayward.
They saw for themselves the range of work, from education to family support, provided by the Harris Road centre.
Mrs Hodge praised the different ways the centre is working together with children and the wider community.
She said: "It is a real joy when you come out of the ivory towers of Westmin-ster to see some of the ideas we've translated into practice."
Hampshire County Council has invested heavily in the Haven, which acts as a model for similar centres.
County councillor Don Allen said: "We want the Haven centre to become a focal point for organisations and groups in both the voluntary and private sectors."
