THE VICTIM of a fatal road accident in Boorley Green last Thursday night has been named as 30-year-old Bruce Kimber, from Hedge End.
Bachelor Mr Kimber, a boatyard worker who lived alone in the town's Haileybury Gardens, died from severe head injuries suffered when the Ford Sierra in which he was a passenger crashed through a line of trees along Winchester Road.
Mr Kimber was returning from a night out with a friend, who was driving the car, which ended up in a garden in nearby Kestrel Close.
After being cut out of the vehicle by Hampshire fire brigade, Mr Kimber was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, where he died from his injuries.
His companion, a 32-year-old man also from Hedge End, who has not been named, was detained after the accident for failing to provide a breath sample at the roadside.
The man is said to be extremely distressed at the accident and members of Mr Kimber's family are currently comforting each other.
Pc Martin Lockyer, of Eastleigh traffic police, said of the driver's condition: "He is totally devastated by the whole incident and will be seeing his doctor today."
Police are keen for any witnesses who may have seen the crash or the car driving towards Fair Oak on Winchester Road around 11.30pm to contact them on 0845 045 45 45.
