FORMER Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie's Wireless Group has snapped up Southampton's Wave 105 FM radio station in a £21 million deal.
The group previously owned 24.6 per cent of the station's shares, but completion of the deal to buy the remainder was finalised at the weekend, subject to shareholder approval.
The buy-up of Wave will complement The Wireless Group's portfolio of regional radio stations by giving it a presence in the South of England, the group said.
Wave, which broadcasts contemporary music to a potential audience of 1.7 million adults in Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth, launched in June 1998, and has since increased its audience to 12 per cent of adults in its catchment area.
