HAMPSHIRE PGA Trainees secured a narrow 6-5 victory over Hamphsire Boys in an end-of-season showpiece match for the Paul Hurring Memorial Fund at Test Valley.
In a match which was effectively the best of the county's young professionals against the best of the young amateurs, the form of 16-year-old Stoneham clubman David Porter again stood out.
The McEvoy Trophy and Carris Trophy winner from Lordshill achieved two wins over his professional counterparts, teaming up with Sean Byrne to beat Jason Daly and Ben Johnson in the foursomes and then seeing off James Ablett 2&1 in the singles.
Match details (trainees names first) - Foursomes: James Ablett and Mike Harris beat Sean Hayes and Chris Page 4&2, Jason Daly and Ben Johnson lost to David Porter and Sean Byrne 1 up, Rob Colborne and Kevin Flynn beat Steve Kattenhorn and Mark Thistleton 1 up, Matt Tryorn and Kevin Sullivan beat Bradley Malone and Sean Justice 2 up.
Singles: Ablett lost to Porter 2&1, Harris halved with Byrne, Johnson lost to Kattenhorn 5&4, Daly beat Justice 1 up, Sullivan beat Hayes 1 up, Tryhorn halved with Page, Flynn lost to Malone 3&2, Colborne halved with Thistleton.
