Young Saints were only too happy to listen during the recent National Deaf Awareness Week.

Football in the Community officer Ian Juryeff offered a group of deaf children a special tour of the ground and the chance to play football in the gym at The Dell (pictured).

It was such a success that the youngsters will be invited back for regular training at reduced rates, just to cover the costs.

Juryeff said: "It is part of our policy of reaching out into the community and it was lovely to see the smiles on the faces of the children.

"It meant so much to them and it is nice as a club to be able to do something for those less fortunate than ourselves."

The club's recent half-term coaching courses were a huge success once again with more than 140 children signing up.

Portuguese duo Luis Boa Morte and Marco Almeida went out to visit youngsters at Mountbatten while Trond Soltvedt and Neil Moss dropped in at Crestwood School. Chris Marsden and Scott Hiley trekked up to Perins School at Alresford and Juryeff added: "It was good of them to give up their free time to sign autographs, pose for pictures and answer questions. We are very grateful to them."

The club are now in the process of organising their next courses over the Christmas holidays. Watch this space for details.

There will be a special goalkeeping course on Saturday mornings at Fleming Park from 10.35-noon for all ages. Book direct with the centre.

The Oaklands Saturday fun session awards for September go to: Daniel Brown (Martin Everett award for determination), Richard Biacsi (Appearance and sportsmanship), Mark Eames (effort and enthusiasm), Josh Holloway (Skill and progress), Craig Fitzpatrick (the Gordon Evans Memorial Trophy).
