Pompey will have to beware of the Wright stuff when they face the son and heir of the former Arsenal striking legend at Maine Road tonight.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is an 18-year-old chip off the old block who is still waiting to hear if his claim to follow in his father's footsteps is upheld.
While the old fellow was maintaining his record of scoring on his debut for every club in notching for Celtic at the weekend, Wright-Phillip's claim to the winner coming on as substitute at Port Vale is subject of stewards' inquiry into whether it was an own goal.
At just 5ft 2in, Wright-Phillips is one of the smallest players around but Manchester City hope he can pack as much punch as his dad and injuries to two of their key men could open the door for him to make his first start.
City's starting front two Paul Dickov and Shaun Goater are almost certainly ruled out with knee and hamstring injuries respectively while skipper Andy Morrison is rated "almost 90 per cent certain to miss the game," according to City boss Joe Royle.
Wright-Phillips could find himself partnering Gareth Taylor up front but the main concern for Pompey boss Alan Ball will be to cut off the supply from Mark Kennedy, who has been a revelation this season.
But to stretch Pompey even further on Maine Road's wide open spaces, Royle also has the option of playing Terry Cooke on the right flank while Kevin Horlock is available again after sitting out a one-match suspension.
