Chandler's Ford snooker star Daniele Zagaroli was unable to upset the odds as he lost to world number 70 Stuart Bingham in his first round match of the Benson & Hedges Tenth anniversary event in Malvern last night.
He was spared the embarrassment of a whitewash by making a half century in frame four but Bingham's class shone through as breaks of 97, 55 and 60 saw him home to a 5-1 win.
It was Zagaroli's fifth appearance in the tournament and continued his run of first round defeats leaving him counting the cost of missing out on the chance to play Rod Lawler in the second round.
Today the South's two remaining competitors Damien Massey of New Milton and Jason Weston of Portsmouth are in action hoping for better luck and a safe passage through to the next round.
Upset of the tournament so far goes to Leicester's 16-year-old Mark Selby as he beat Kyndon Paddon 5-1 to set up a second round match against defending champion David Gray despite being the youngest ever player to feature in the competition.
