A last-minute goal by Marcus Gayle denied Saints their first win in seven Premiership games.
The Wimbledon midfielder was on hand to smack home the rebound after John Hartson had thundered against the bar from 18 yards.
It was heartbreaking for Saints who had taken the lead on 66 minutes when Marian Pahars beat the off-side trap to slot home a slide-rule diagonal pass from Stuart Ripley.
It was his seventh goal of the season and he has now scored in each of the last five league away games and it looked enough to give Saints what would have been their fifth victory in eight Premiership visits to Wimbledon.
But their recent inability to hold on to a lead proved their undoing once again as the Dons salvaged a point which their first-half pressure probably warranted.
Paul Jones had to make two blinding saves to keep his side level after both teams had had early goals disallowed for off-side.
Saints seemed to have weathered the storm and had the better of the second-half until they finally cracked in the 89th minute.
