TWO children were hurt, one seriously, after a horrific four-vehicle collision on a busy Southampton road yesterday.
They and a woman in a blue Ford managed to crawl clear from the wreckage of their car which ended up crushed beneath the front of a container lorry in the accident on the westbound carriageway of Millbrook Road flyover.
The westbound section of the road was closed to traffic as emergency services rushed to the rescue.
A fleet of five ambulances were at the scene to ferry the injured to Southampton General Hospital.
A fire tender from Redbridge fire station was dispatched to the scene and lent assistance. But the occupants managed to crawl out before it arrived.
A spokesman at Redbridge fire station described the scene as "horrendous".
"I just don't know how they got out of there,'' he said.
The road was closed for three hours and rush-hour traffic was diverted down a slip road to Millbrook roundabout.
