HIS job may be chauffeuring the Mayor of Southampton's posh stretch Rover, but for a week, Ralph Gillingham will have to rely on Shanks's Pony.
Luckily, the grandeur of his surroundings will make Ralph forget his aching feet.
He's walking 110 kilometres along the Great Wall of China to aid the Wessex Heartbeat Appeal, and also fulfilling a lifetime's ambition.
"I have always wanted to go to the Far East, and the Great Wall of China is second to none," said Ralph, who lives at Malthouse Gardens, Marchwood.
Ralph relied on a specialist travel firm based near Gatwick Airport to make the arrangements for his journey to China. He flew out on Monday, having already been promised £700 for his wall walk, but he hopes more pledges will come in before he sets off.
