A RECORD-breaking fundraiser helped put a smile on the faces of young cancer patients at Southampton General Hospital.
Swaythling Working Men's Club went all out to beat its previous records when it held a bank holiday charity day.
The club was hoping to top its previous best of £1,400 - and supporters were delighted when the final total of £1,529.70 was recently announced.
A sponsored headshave, barbecue, raffles and other events helped net the jackpot, which was spent on a range of goodies for the ward including two televisions, two videos, two hi-fi systems and a host of other treats.
Norman Beesley, of Violet Road, agreed to have his headshaved along with Brian Medley, of Poppy Road. He said: "We were very happy the day raised so much money - and it gives us something to aim to beat next time.''
