Former Saints manager Bill Dodgin Senior has died in Godalming, Surrey, aged 90.
The Gateshead-born centre-half made 84 war-time appearances for Saints when the league programme was suspended, his only senior competitive games coming in the 1945-46 FA Cup.
He was team captain at The Dell from 1943-1945, became team coach briefly during the 1945-46 season and was appointed team manager when league action resumed after the war. Dodgin went on to manage Fulham, Brentford and Sampdoria.
