WHEN it comes to promoting the green cause, Eastleigh's Crescent Primary School pupils are clearly top of the class.
For they have been so successful at gathering clean aluminium for recycling that they have won educational prizes adding up to £50. And continuing the environment theme they have chosen a recycling wall chart as part of their prize.
The competition was run by Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) in partnership with Eastleigh Council and Bursledon's Queen Elizabeth II Activity Centre.
Prizes were awarded for schools which hit target levels of achievement.
Pupils at Crescent School made the effort and collected over 50kg of foil.
Eastleigh Council's recycling officer, Martyn Cole, presented the prizes plus a certificate of merit to the children while they were visiting the activity centre.
They were then shown how the centre sorts and bales the foil and had the opportunity to join in with some of the activities.
The activity centre, which provides outdoor activities and opportunities for people with special needs, collects, sorts and bales the foil received from schools and recycling sites around the area, before selling it for recycling.
Alupro's community project manager, Ros Sheppard, said: "Crest-wood School have done really well and results across the competition were well up on last year.
"We shall have a new schools pack and run a new competition later in the year and would be delighted to hear from primary schools in the area interested in getting involved."
