Road race newcomer Barry Reynolds(pictured) from Exeter picked up an unexpected victory at the Solent Half Marathon yesterday.
Reynolds who has only been racing seriously for six months, took an early lead in the 13.1-mile course around the New Forest and held off stiff opposition from two Portsmouth AC athletes in the finishing straight to win in 70 minutes and 58 seconds. David Thompson was second with veteran Vince Stamp third.
Kathryn Bailey (below) defended her title in the women's race with a comfortable victory -finishing just 30 seconds off the course record.
Bailey, of Havant AC, took 78 minutes 44 seconds to finish the course which was completed by more than 400 other runners.
