Itchen Tae Kwon Do Club are celebrating after scooping an amazing 14 medals from the Southern Tae Kwon Do Championships in Salisbury.

Sixteen students from the Southampton area represented the club, which has only been running for two years, and secured a one- two-three finish in both the boys' patterns and the girls' sparring events.

The students are under the tuition of Neil Good who said: "We knew that we had a chance of some medals because we have a highly talented group of youngsters at Itchen but I never expected anything like 14 - this is truly exceptional.

"Southampton has a bright future in Tae Kwon Do. "I'm especially looking forward to watching my students progress to European and World standard - particularly with the Sydney 2000 Olympics being the first to include Tae Kwon Do as an official event. Southampton has a lot to be happy about!" Medals winners were: Chris Challis (aged 12) gold, James Horn (12) silver and bronze, Andrew Deakin (12) silver and bronze, Rachael Summers (11) gold and bronze, Michael Deakin (8) gold, Victoria Marshall (12) gold, Kate Marshall (10) gold, Kirsty Challis (15) silver, Joanne Summers (9) bronze, Daniel Banks (12) silver and Ray Stone (47) bronze.
