SIX LITTLE Babes in the Wood are looking for a home this week after being discovered abandoned in the depths of the New Forest.

Now safely ensconced at Hythe's rabbit and rodent rescue centre, this loveable litter of eight-week-old hamsters were cruelly left to fend for themselves in a cage in the heart of the Forest.

It was only by chance they were found by a passer-by.

And two days after their rescue one of the litter gave birth to her own babies - making their story an even greater potential tragedy.

Happily the six - one male, Stormy, and five females, Betsy, Gypsy, Pansy, Spice and Kimi - survived the ordeal and are now recovering at the centre.

Rescue centre manager Jackie Stokes said: "They didn't suffer too much from their ordeal but they did have a few injuries because they had been kept all together.

"They had started to fight each other and so were left with a few bites."

If you are can provide a fairytale ending to this story then give Jackie a ring on 01703 847519.
