Winchester Tennis and Squash Club play host to the Veterans European Tennis Club Championships once again.

Having gained a reputation for staging European events, the Bereweeke Road Club will welcome the Veterans Over-60 European Club Championships from Monday, September 13.

Each club won their national championships and there will be fierce competition for the European crown. The event is being sponsored by Egglestones Solicitors and Coca-Cola and will bring some of the world's top veteran players to Winchester.

TC Bendestorf from Germany have the world ranked number two and eight in the shape of Claude Duverneuil from France and Klaus Fuhrmann from Germany in their squad.

The Spanish side Valencia bring Argentinian Juan Toboada Ovandio whilst the British champions Edgbaston Priory have world ranked Brian Storr leading them.

Play starts each day at 9.30am and the club will welcome spectators who wish to see top European veterans tennis.

Former British num-ber one Chris Wilkinson from Southampton who recently retired from the full-time tennis circuit was back in the limelight this week - as an expert summeriser during Sky TV's coverage of the US Open.
