RINGWOOD Town have made light of the jump from Division 3 to the Premier Division.

The New Forest side kept up the pressure on leaders Petersfield with a 1-0 win over AFC Basingstoke at Long Lane yesterday, striker Mike Dunne getting the winner with less than 20 minutes left on the clock.

Petersfield bounced back from a three-goal TrophyMan League Cup defeat by Lymington on Saturday to maintain their 100 per cent Premier Division record with a 1-0 win over Liss. Johnny Wheeler, back from a long-term injury problem, popped up with the late winner.

Romsey Town lost play-maker Lee Rankin with a nasty head injury and were never the same in their home game with Blackfield. Rankin went off to hospital to have stitches in a deep gash after a clash of heads with Nathan Oakley, who had just put Blackfield ahead. Martin Spiers struck with a gem from 30 yards for Blackfield's second and Paul Pallister rounded it off for the Watersiders.

Netley Central were given the run around by high-flying county newcomers Hadleigh who triumphed 6-2 at Station Road. Jim Bennett got both for Netley while young Matt Owen went one better for Winchester Castle who whipped Basing Rovers 7-1 in the TrophyMan League Cup.
