COWES climbed six places to second place in the Jewson Wessex League - two points behind title-holders and lead-ers Lymington & NM - after a late strike earned a 2-1 victory over mid-table Brockenhurst at Westwood Park last night.

Adam Barsdell was the hero netting the winner three minutes from time. After a blank first 45 minutes, Barsdell gave the Yachtsmen the lead on 56 minutes.

Matthew White equalised 15 minutes from time for the Badgers before Barsdell popped up with his third goal of the season. The result now extends the Cowes unbeaten record in league and cup to four games.

At Cams Alders, East Cowes continued their promising start to the new campaign in a creditable 1-1 with Fareham.

Mark Butler struck for the Vics cancelling out a Scott Thornton effort for Rob Sanderson's men. Lymington & NM and Eastleigh reserves both maintained their 100 per cent records in the Combination league.

The Linnets saw off Hamble ASSC 2-0 at Folland P ark and Eastleigh romped in 5-2 at basement club Newbury. Both sides sit proudly at the top with 12 points apeice.
