HISTORY buffs around the globe will at the press of a button be able to dig into Eastleigh's past as the town's museum is put firmly on the map.

A new website has now gone on line at the High Street museum.

The newly extended web site includes information on the museum, its services and facilities for schools, opening hours, a location map and the resources area.

There are also details on the newly-launched Friends of Eastleigh Museum, which will be holding its first meeting on Tuesday, September 7.

Curator Sue Tapliss says: "This is an exciting development for us at Eastleigh Museum.

"It allows us to spread the word about Eastleigh Museum far and wide.

"It is the first step in an ongoing programme of access to information about the museum on the web."

The website will provide a quick and easy way for Eastleigh people scattered throughout the world to keep in touch with their local museum.

And the e-mail facilities provide a new means of contacting the museum with inquiries and information to be added to the museum's archives.

The Eastleigh Museum web site was created by Ian Edelman from the Hampshire County Council Museums Service. It is part of an extensive series of web pages with-in Hantsweb, the county council's award-winning website.
