A VICAR is putting his faith and his best foot forward for a gruelling trip in the hope of raising funds for new heating at his church.
Terry Roberts, who is vicar of St Barnabas Church in Weeke, is to walk the whole 125 miles from Winchester to Canterbury, following, when he can, the ancient Pilgrim's Way.
Mr Roberts is completing the sponsored walk to help with a £15,000 appeal to install new heat-ing in his 33-year-old church in Fromond Road. He also wants to fit a loop for worshippers who have hearing difficulties.
"This is the first major event after the appeal was kicked off in June," he said.
Mr Roberts, 54, is now in training for the task.
"I am trying to train and I am going out walking to get fit, but also I am going to Canterbury so I can see the installation of my friend Bishop Stephen Venner as Bishop of Dover at a service in Canterbury Cathedral on September 11," said Mr Roberts.
The bishop said: "I hope that many will support Terry.''
Anyone who would like to sponsor him on his walk can call him on 01962 882728.
