THE chalet groper preying on women and girls on the Isle of Wight has struck again.
Extra police were being drafted in from the mainland today following reports that he had tried to enter another house on the island early yesterday morning.
It is the third reported break-in by the sex attacker this week.
But now detectives are becoming even more concerned after the prowling pervert turned his attention away from holiday chalets in the West Wight to an Island couple's home five miles away at Brook on the island's south coast.
A 39-year-old woman contacted police yesterday after she awoke to see a hand reaching through an open bedroom window at around 1am.
The terrified woman, who was lying in bed next to her husband screamed and the intruder calmly ambled off down their driveway.
The same man is thought to be behind two separate break-ins earlier this week which left a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old girl traumatised.
In the first incident at Longbeach Bungalows at Colwell Chine in the early hours of Monday morning the 14-year-old was woken by a man touching her leg.
In the second case, just 80 minutes later and less than a mile away at Norton Green a 17-year-old alerted police after she saw a man lifting the window of her holiday home.
Two previous cases were reported at the Brambles Chine Holiday Park in May and September last year.
In the May break-in a 24-year-old local woman renting a chalet in the closed season was pinned down, threatened and indecently assaulted.
Detective Sergeant David Pilbeam, of Newport CID, said of the area of the previous reports we are linking it. There are too many similarities.
"Although the woman did not get a clear view of him we know he walked off calmly because his footsteps were heard on the gravel path.
"Obviously we are becoming increasingly concerned by the increase in these reports and would urge everybody in the western part of the island to be vigilant. We are looking at many new leads." Anyone with any information is urged to contact Newport CID on 01983 528000.
