MONDAY saw the launch of the Over-50s Festival in earnest with a number of events taking place but the highlight was the official opening at Southampton Guildhall.
The festival was officially opened by the Mayor of Southampton, councillor Derek Burke.
Throughout the day at the Guildhall those who attended enjoyed a variety of performances and activities ranging from the Chris Walker Jazz Band to a game of bingo.
Staff at Radio Solent also hosted a guided tour around the facilities giving an insight on how the station operates.
A group of 13 was shown around the building by Broadcasting assistant Sylv Willoughby.
She said: "They all went away wide-eyed and open-mouthed. They were amazed at what actually goes on and how everything works.
"They all seemed to enjoy it very much and had lots of questions to ask."
In Thornhill people got their dancing shoes on and enjoyed a more sedate tea and dance party at the East Point Centre.
